On May 1, 2016, The Liberty University Online Academy East Coast Triathlon Festival returns to the Innsbrook Office Park in Glen Allen, VA. Following the Cycling World Championships, The East Coast Triathlon Festival again proves Richmond to be a sought after endurance event destination. Now in its fourth year, the triathlon festival has been selected for one of three US races on the International Triathlon Union world-wide elite series and will therefore host some of the top professional triathletes in the world. In addition, the festival will host a junior elite race that is 1 of 4 in the country as well as amateur adult and kid’s triathlons.
“We are very excited to add the CAMTRI (ITU) Sprint American Cup and once again welcome top level professional athletes to Richmond,” said Michael Harlow, founder and head coach, Endorphin Fitness. “All in one day, local athletes will be able to race on the same course as the best in the world as well as watch these amazing athletes compete – there is nothing like this in the country.”
Endorphin Fitness anticipates 800 professional athletes, elite junior athletes, amateur kids, and adults will compete across four separate race formats. The races include a kid’s fun race for ages seven to 15; a super sprint distance for amateur youth and adults; the Junior Elite Cup; and the headline CAMTRI Sprint American Cup professional event. The Junior Elite race will draw the top 13 to 19 year olds from across the country and the CAMTRI Cup will draw the top professional athletes from across the world. Endorphin Fitness expects more than 1,500 athletes and spectators present to either compete or watch the day’s activities.
“The day’s events are not just about elite competition. Endorphin Fitness encourages an active community through triathlon. We were very purposeful in structuring the race distances to enable inclusion, from beginners to elite athletes,” Michael Harlow, founder and head coach, Endorphin Fitness, stated.
Endorphin Fitness, which specializes in triathlon coaching, personal training, and bicycle retail is dedicated to a vision of using fitness, swim, bike, and run for the health and well-being of children and adults. A major focus of Endorphin Fitness is the youth community. The East Coast Triathlon Festival is one of three races produced by Endorphin Fitness which all have a youth focus. Endorphin Fitness’ goal is to go beyond traditional sports and create opportunities using endurance activities to get kids active, fight childhood obesity and encourage self-esteem and self-motivation.
